MCKEY MONROE
Contralto
ARTIST INFORMATION
McKey Monroe is a dramatic, charismatic, and enthusiastic Contralto. McKey is a native of Aiken, SC, and grew up with very few opportunities to sing in choirs or sing publicly. However, their mother and father introduced them to singing in the car to Billy Joel, ELO, The Monkees and many more. They were introduced to classical music when they joined their middle school band on the alto saxophone. McKey recently finished working on a few projects such as the role of a Sprite in Massenet’s Cendrillon and premiering Zwischenspiel, a new opera scene, by William Martin at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University. Currently, McKey is working on portraying Maurya in Ralph Vaughan Williams' Riders to the Sea with Peabody Opera. They are a very passionate performer and believe that putting bits of themself into each performance helps with their ability to convince the audience that they are living through each moment.
